    Hi,
I got him on 1/28 so I bet it was him! He was in with the red pomeranian mix female. I got her, too. I also got another little hound/terrier mix. I went for one or two, took three and ended up with four because the pom mix had a single puppy 5 days later! lol I actually went for the red pom mix and the female beagle with the eye problem but I was told the beagle rescue was coming for her so I took Noodles instead. My friends went down the next day and took every dog that was left and a cat. The only dogs that didn't get out on Tues were Jack and Jill but we were told someone had an appt to get them on Wednesday so I believe they made it out, too. So I guess we saved them all that week! Awesome!

Your new baby is gorgeous!!! I'm so happy you got her, good luck and lots of love to her!!!

One of the shelter attendants actually called me at home the weekend after I got Cinnamon to see how she was doing and I asked her about Jack & Jill. Sadly, they did not make it out. But she said they were showing more and more signs of aggression toward children and other dogs, so maybe it's for the best.

Did you see Cinnamon when you were there? She was in a cage with a big puppy... looked like it might have been a Newfoundland mix (gorgeous puppy!)... who was jumping all over her. She was curled up on the floor when I first saw her but when I went to the cage and started talking to her she got up and came over to me. Sweet old thing. :)

I'm so sorry to hear that about Jack and Jill. Poor babies, it's no wonder considering what they were going through and it's not their fault they didn't know how to get along in this world. :(

I don't recall cinnamon but I think my mind is blocking much of that experience out. I'm so glad you got her. She looks lovely and SO SWEET!

BTW... If anyone is interested I have Scrappy in foster, too! He does have a home lined up but I am still accepting back up applications in case it falls through. He's an awesome, laid back dog. And SOOO CUTE! I think he might be a PBGV (you'll have to google that one, lol).

Happy Valentine's Day! Everyone give your pets extra kisses today!!

Your Sheltie is gorgeous. I have one, too. He's great with my kids. I wouln't recommend them as a mostly outside dog, though. They are very people-orientated and want to be with the family. Shelties are known for showing empathy. My dog will go sit with my girls whenever they are upset.

Thanks so much! He has ALWAYS been our baby! I was worried how he would handle each of the girls when they came along, but he did terrific! He is soooooo laid back, a little mouthy at times. I like to refer to him as an ALERT dog NOT Attack Dog!!! I think if someone were to charge him, he would run and hide

    I agree with you.

Pure breed Chow Chows are sneaky. . .period.

A German Shepherd Dog, a Rottie, a Doberman and some other breeds known to be "aggressive" all have one thing in common - 99.9% of the time those breeds will let you see it coming. Most will growl and give you a chance to freeze and back off, NOT your average Chow Chow though. . .(I'm talking PURE BREED CHOW CHOW) a Chow Chow will be there and be cool one minute and be tearing your flesh the next and it can happen after knowing the dog for years.

I personally know of two people who had and loved their pure breed Chow for over three years, had them as pups and never ever mistreated them and then one day, totally out of the blue, with no warning or apparent reason, BAM, they were bitten.

The problem - in my opinion - is that breeds that become popular get over-bred. People in their greed to make a buck decide to breed dogs that are not up to the breed standard (good bloodline, good temperment, intelligence, health, etc) and breed anything that just happens to be pure bred.

This, drives me crazy! "AKC registration" in many ads is bogus! It may mean NOTHING! Not a gosh darn thing! When you look in the paper and you see someone has a litter of pups and "with papers" they are one price and "without papers" they are another - LOOK AWAY FAST! If a breeder has a litter of pups and the sire and the dam of the litter are BOTH AKC registered, they would have sent in a litter registration, which costs 25.00 + $2.00 per puppy. . .so if they have 5 puppies, its 35.00 total cost to register that litter. When you purchase one of those pups, the breeder should give you a registration application for YOU to fill out (many times they already type in the sire and dams info along with their info so the buyer has very little left to fill out. and THE BUYER sends the AKC $20.00 for a basic registration. Selling pups from a registered litter with the application for AKC registration costs the seller nothing! So why in God's name would someone offer pups without papers for less????? Ohhhh, did you just have a lightbulb moment? Yup, cause IF some unsuspecting person who wants a puppy decides that saving 50.00 - 100.00 (I've seen the price difference even higher in ads) on the cost of that cute furry warm cuddly little critter means no papers, why not save the money and put it towards a vet visit, or doggie toys??? Folks, IF a breeder doesn't give you the registration application and show your their dog's registration CERTIFICATE, there's a really, really strong chance that the litter is not registered - which means that one, or both of the pups parents are probably not registered either, which, honestly means you have a pure breed puppy, of questionable bloodlines, or there might even be a mix somewhere in there and it just isn't terribly noticeable. Their parents could even be littermates (brother and sister), or their sire was the pup of their mother. . .etc. . .and while some believe that genetics in dogs is not the same as the gene pool in humans, think about it. . .we all have hearts, lungs, kidneys, livers, brains, circulatory systems. . .and bad stuff will happen if we inbreed enough.

Greed and indiscriminate breeding has ruined many a breed of dog - their temperament is not what it should be, ditto with their health. Chow Chows, Golden Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels, German Shepherd Dogs, Jack Russells, Dalmations. . .all breeds that either TV shows, Movies, or ad campaigns have made popular, have been subject to people wanting and the demand will always stimulate the supply.

Are there good dogs in breeds I mentioned above? Definitely! If you want a dog of a pure bloodline, contact breed rescues, shelters, etc there are plenty of pure breeds, including puppies who are in need of homes. If you want to spend real money (more than adoption fees at shelters and rescues) then find a reputable breeder - someone who loves their breed, works with their dogs either by showing them in confirmation, obedience, agility or field trials - someone who isn't out to just make some extra money breeding dogs in their back yard. Yes, the price a reputable breeder may charge may be a bit steeper than that backyard breeder, if you can't afford it, rescue, or save up. . .don't line someone's pocket for breeding dogs, just because they happen to look like the breed you want.

This is a subject that makes me want to tear my hair out! People get taken every day and it irks me. . .especially when the bait is a warm puppy.

    BTW- Mixed breed dogs ROCK!

I know AKC registration paper is outrageous to have, BUT....if you're planning to show your dog in the dog show, for example, enrolling a dog into the Kennel Club Show, each dog must required to have an AKC registration paper for breed proof. Same thing with purebred cats.
For me, I don't need it because I'm not interesting to breed and sell dogs at all. I agree with you saying that there are alot of bogus AKC registration paper out there and the breeder charges you alot of money for it. People need to be careful and be wise.

EXCELLENT DECISION! "Please don't breed, or buy when pets needing to be adopted die."

Great! We adopted our new fella from Friends Forever out of Greensboro. We were thoroughly impressed with their practices. They have their mess together!

    Here's my latest news:

    1. Good news! Noodles the beagle (the one of the poster mentioned here) has FOUND a new home! Luckily, someone adopted him first before me, which I'm very happy for them.

    2. Still waiting for TriBeagle to response about my questionaire form.

    3. I'm going to visit Wake County SPCA tomorrow after work - there is a beagle needing a home named BeagleJuice, so I'm going to check him out.
