Depending on how much you're gonna cover, you can buy the 'touch-up' kits or just buy a whole box - they cost about the same, so lately I've been getting the whole box (although they don't have the exact shade as the touch-up ones in the same brand??? :?) Anyway - I have a 'rat-tail' brush (like they use at the salon, look at Sally's for them) I mix up the color, then put a big blob in a styrofoam bowl. I start with my part and brush the color along that line, kinda brushing both sides of the part, then make another line very close to my part and continue from my part to my ear. Then go back along my face hair line, then start at my part again and go the other way down the head to that ear, again - going over the face line area. Fold your ears forward, and get behind them. Then I get my dd or sometimes my dh to do the back and sides on the back side. (To me these areas are not as much of a problem as the top and sides - especially around my face). As long as you stick pretty close to your base color, it should come out alright..I hope
Cool thanks, gonna try that. Have an appt for the whole thing next week, but gonna try your method 4 wks later so i can just pay half for the year to get it done:hurray:
I wasn't too far off, had the roots all touched up this time (I just defer to Jennifers professional opinion as to what we need to touch up and when... all over color or highlights), blends beautifully! $75 for the cut, color and blow-dry (1 color). $12 for eyebrow wax, and tip... out the door $102, and I'm good to go until 8/28!!
I'm sure that most of us can attest to, you get what you pay for when it comes to hairdressing. Haircolor is even cheaper than $9 a box, buy it at Sallys. $5 for color, and a bottle of creme activator that will get you through several hair colors for $6. I've gone that route when I've had to, and am not afraid to color my own hair. But... I deserve to be pampered.
Yep, totally agree on that. Colored my own hair for about 10 years when my kids were all still at home, became quite accomplished at it but once you have it done professionally you just cannot go back to the box, the color is just not the vibrancy and mix of light and dark. Everyone knows i am tight as all get out when it comes to spending money but i just cannot go back to a box except for the root touch ups that bandmom recommended, that i may be able to get away with:lol:
Lord, I did my own hair ONCE :ack::ack::ack: 'Bout died! Went in ever since. That's my ONLY escape. For 3 hours.
I spend $100 for a cut, style, and highlights. I do not skimp on my hair and I don't use cheap shampoos either. I quit using the do it yourself color in high school. Nothing like frying your hair or it coming out orange.
I am so glad you were able to get it! I hate wasting free stuff!! How yummy it will be with your coffee this morning!!
Just FYI- I took a chance, and went to the Fantastic Sams at 42. The stylist who cut my hair is named Jennifer (ironic huh?) and she was GREAT!! She took the time to really listen to what I wanted, and what I didn't. She cut my hair EXACTLY like I asked her to, and even gave me some advice on coloring it, even though she knew I was going to do it myself. I was extremely pleased, and got out of there for less than $20 WITH the tip! If you go see her, tell her Jennifer, who met her husband there (long story) sent you.
Has anyone been to AShley at Andrea & Co? I had an appt with Jenny, but she got sick and had to cancel - but I needed my hair did before leaving for vacation on Sat so they gave my an appt with Ashley.....I'm a little scarurwd... don't like using somebody new :?
I have no clue who Ashley is. Only used Jenny. Maybe Jenny will be there and can tell Ashley what you like or don't like.
They said she would - not sure if she'll be there today or not. I also brought a recent picture taken at a wedding soon after the last time Jenny did my hair - so hopefully that will help too. I also asked if they all charge about the same - she said yes - I hope so!
