What happened to my HD DVR??

My biggest loss with the new guide is that you can't look up words within titles and descriptions, nor can you record shows that do not show up on the guide.

    For example.

I've been wanting to see "The Trial of Billy Jack". In the old guide I could select seach by keyword, type in "Billy Jack" and it would display all TV shows and movies with the words "Billy Jack". If I did not get a list, then I could just press the record button and, in the future, and TV show or movie with the words "Billy Jack" came up, they would automatically be scheduled to record.

You can use the keypad like the old system and type it in.

Yes, but it only looks for TV show or movie titles, not partial titles. In other words, if I just typed in "Billy Jack", I would never see the entry for "The Trial of Billy Jack" if it were playing.

Ours has been fine. Didn't loose any recording, if so DH would have called and cancelled.

To the person who works at TWC - I'd like to be able to CHOOSE what programs I watch. There's so much fluff on the "package" we have BUT if we downgraded to the next level, DH couldn't watch Fox News or some of the other ones he likes.

How about propose to the higer ups (or maybe its you) that people are charged for the shows they WANT to watch...
    For example...

$1 per show? VERSUS the $91.92 I pay now per month.

Just a suggestion. You might see that if you did that first instead of Dish and the other companies that you'd make more money.

Believe it or not, that idea is in the works.

    Are you kidding me?

That would be GREAT!!!!!!!! I'd stick with them forever if they did that. There are only about ... mmm.... 15 shows that we watch. i don't need the *music* channels because we've got ITunes on the computer and pump it through the house speakers. NO HBO"s NO Cinemax etc...

I think it's a racket that I pay $92 A MONTH for only watching 15 channels. Told DH I was going to cancel TWC, but that means we'd have to all 4 sit here and look at each other.

Nope. I was just reading a few months ago in one of the trade (geek) magazines I get that Time/Warner was working to move in that direction. They did not go into much detail (pricing, and whatnot), but did say they were heading that way (and not just thinking about it). Based on the industry time lines, I would guess it'll be a year or two before it hits the big markets and another year or so after before they have changed over completely. (If I remember right, they are test marketing it in Texas somewhere)

I doubt if you will end up paying much less than you do now, though. Nor do I think that it will be flexible depending on the channel ($5 for HBO, $2 for The N). They do have their profiot to maintain, and their chareholders to answer to.

My big question is, why and I seeing commercials? I thought that the reason I pay the cable company is so that I don't have to watch commercials.

We DVR everything so we don't have to watch commercials. I rarely watch anything LIVE unless it's the news. (and that's not very often - thanks to the internet)

You're still watching commercials, your just watching them at a much faster rate (think blipvert, if you were a Max Headroom fan)

I did notice that it looks like when you ff through commercials now, you can go at 3x speed, I like that!

we can't record first run only anymore:evil: They just changed mine the other day and haven't had a lot of time to sit down and check all the changed features out yet. Are you saying that it will automatically record 1st runs and reruns of every show we have set???

    My thoughts exactly!!

For those that have no idea what that is...

HTPC = Home Theater Personal Computer

It's a PC with one or more very large hard drives and a TV tuner card connects to your cable and your home network, uses free programs guides to set up your schedules, and then records. Just like the DVR you have now. You can playback to your TV just as you could with a DVR. You can also obviously play your digital music and send the output to your audio system. You can even get a tuner card with a remote control. The drives can be configured so that they're backed-up, so that you won't lose anything. You would obviously own the HTPC, so you would not have to pay any monthly fees to your cable/satellite/dish company, and you can modify it any way you see fit.

gonna be on the phone with TWC tomorrow morning - had Criminal Minds set to record, the system said it was gonna record but the screen showed at blank and error 3:evil: i switched it to 257 and was able to start recording it at 9:20, so went ahead and reset CSINY to record on that channel too and canceled the record on channel 3:twisted:
