I am not part of this "loop", but we did start giving out candy at 6pm and had to close the door and turn out the lights by 8 as we were out of candy. In years past we had a ton of candy left over, not this year.
I disagree, the roots of Halloween go back to Samhain which was a Celtic harvest festival celebrated from Oct 31st to Nov 1. To take a "holiday" and move it around the calendar to make it more convenient, takes away the specialness of it. IMO. We should move New Year's Eve so it is always on a Thursday or Monday, so we get a guaranteed 3-day weekend.
And if we're going to move New Year's, we'll just have to move Christmas too. Might as well have two long weekends in a row. :ack:
If I was allowed in the loop I wouldn't set myself up to be disparaged this way. I still think it should be moved. Halloween doesn't compare to those other holidays that you meanies are throwing out there. It can be like....I forget which holiday it is that we actually "observe" it on a different day. We should observe Halloween on Saturday, that makes it easier for me to "observe" all the french maids, kitty cats and bunny rabbits.
I'd still celebrate it on Thursday. That's Wednesday day for Prepping/baking, Thursday for cooking/eating/resting, Friday for eating/resting/farting/eating. Then the weekend could be business as usual.
