Allow me to clarify...... Yes, the mistake made was an honest one and yes it was transposing 2 numbers. Too bad it wasn't the least significant numbers... Anyway, I really feel there was no need to call each other idiots because that was not the intended purpose of this thread. The intended purpose of this thread was to ask, what would prompt the POS blood sucking IRS to want to audit a reture 3 years ago? Maybe Uncle Sam seen my recently purchased item that I mostly paid cash for and thought that I had too much deflection on the fun meter giving them cause to dredge up something. Geeeee, if us American's would audit Uncle Sam I wonder if they would pay us back for their mistakes? I especially love the IRSs amiable letter they send you giving you nothing but their ultimatums. PS Can we please be cool with each other?
Robo, this has nothing to do with your post. I apologize if you feel it is. These people on 4042 think I am another poster that they knew. I am not this person. They continuously take jabbs at me making smart ars comments. I am just standing my ground. It is pretty stupid that this other person gets so much of their attention. If they didn't like that person then move on. For reasons that I can't figure out, I guess I am the NEW "T4T". I have offered to meet, no bites. What else is one to do? I apologize for this crap getting into your post. I have no hate for anyone in here. Obviously they do for me. Oh well. It's just a darn computer. I get good information off this site about the area in which I live. So I will stay. Have a great day robo. Ben
If you made an unusual purchase or significant changes to your return that are not readily explainable there is a possibility of an audit. They have programs to flag current year reurns for audits and those too can trigger prior year reviews even if there is nothing found. The IRS has been catching some flack for the number of audited returns declining over time.
You live in the united states, yes? you're paying for the fact that you live in the united states. You're paying to keep that true. how the hell can people be so stupid as to expect to be citizens of any country that isnt 3rd world for nothing? You're not screwed, and you are paying your dues. whether you like this fact or not living in this country costs money. get over it IMO. taxes are the price you pay for civilized society. If you're really that strongly against it im sure some sub-saharan country will be willing to take you in.
ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! BLIND much?! Just my 2 cents. I agree with you, HG!
I agree if you want services you have to pay for them. Military Courts Schools Infratructure Police Fire Protection Etcetera Unless you opt out of these services, I expect you to pay your share.
Get the Federal Gov't out of our lives except what the constitution says they should do. Welfare, education housing etc etc should all be state issues not federal. I am not saying this would make our overall tax burden less, but the closer it is to "home" the more responsible and less buracracy there "should" be. Think about the education Dept, and how much money goes just to run the Fedral Dept of education in buildings, salaries etc etc. All that money could go back to the states.
It's the Etcetera that tends to bug people, and there's more Etcetera everyday. AND the fact that technically the income taxes they are collecting are not legal, check the 16th amendment was deemed to be unconstitutional by the supreme court pretty soon after it was passed, but they still collect them, don't they. Most people would agree that our present tax structure needs an overhaul, much like most of our government services..... Don't get me wrong, I think they need to collect taxes to run the country, it would be nice for it to be legal, but aside from that I'd sure like em to get rid of the Etcetera, etcetera, and so on.....
That's an old-wives tale. Other than the fact that the 16th amendment is in the Constitution (so, by definition can't be unconstitutional), there is nothing else in the Constitution which would forbid it. As a side note, the USSC did rule that an income tax was unconstitutional in 1895, this court decision was what led to the sixteenth amendment being proposed.
k...then explain this to me. The 16th Amendment, once ratified, specifically issued that the taxes are to be indirect. Yet the taxes we pay are direct. Isn't that contrary to the Amendment? Not arguing about not paying taxes, I agree that they're needed in some extent to run the country, just making an observation about the Amendment vs what's happening. Frogger
Interesting story of the 16th . http://www.wealth4freedom.com/16thHistory.htm http://www.salestax.org/library/skousen_16history.html never ratified? (I think this is the wives tale) http://www.wealth4freedom.com/16th.html http://www.thelawthatneverwas.com/new/home.asp
I would just as soon pay state taxes (and local) than Federal. Even if the same amount was withheld, I think with the additional layer of buracracy removed, it would be more money going to people / agencies who need it.
This state is something else when it comes to taxes. I couldn't believe it when we moved here and discovered that it's more complicated to do your state return than your federal return! And the income tax rates absolutely blew me away!!!! I was used to a flat 2.8% in PA, period. And then I got a letter accusing me of not paying our taxes for the previous year (we moved in December), and assessing us for thousands of dollars in back taxes and penalties. Of course, the burden of proof was on us to prove that we paid our taxes for most of the year in another state.
