Why is child support not a tax deduction?

    Just for those interested here is the Form 8332 from the IRS that the custodial parent relinquishes the exemption to the non custodial parent. Note, normally this is court ordered but some separated parents decide to do this without the court orders, if the situation fits with their family.

    OK. So what you are saying is that it is possible for the CP to give those rights to the NCP? TO claim? Look I work with computers...I don't talk to them. So I am not that complicated. Hush Harley Girl!! Don't say a word.

    Hey Server, yes, as far as the IRS is concerned it is possible for the NCP to claim them but you and your ex have to be in agreement and she has to sign the form, that is something you and her can work out on your own if you agree to it. (If she doesn't agree to it, sign it and you claim them anyway, you will get into a mess of problems though...keep that in mind)
