Since they are no where near being finished, I think I will go tomorrow and find out where everything is. I'll set up at the stoplight and sell maps for $5. Probably make a fortune. :)

We went by the 40/42 Walmart last week to see if there was a sign announcing the opening. An employee taking a break outside said they were opening August 18. I don't know if that is the grand opening date, but that is the date she told me.

I'm trying to hold out on my big monthly shopping trip until the 40/42 one opens .... my last trip to the one in clayton was like having a crack addict in a store with all spoons and no fire! Frustrating as h*** and it took me double the time! Grrrrrrr

If this makes anyone feel better (and it probably won't!) we're not the only ones struggling with the horrible renovation. My mom lives in NY, and she said they're doing the same exact mess to her walmart. Moving everything around, can't find anything, etc. I'm thinking they're trying to make them all look like the new ones, so this one at 40/42 will probably be the same way. I guess we all just have to suffer. :banghead:

And just a note: they opened a new Walmart in Wilkesboro (where the cabin is) a few months ago, and we went a couple weeks ago and they had a big thing out front with lots of vendors giving away free stuff. I don't know if that's what they were calling their grand opening, since I didn't see a sign, or if it was just something they did at that store. But it was pretty cool, lots of free food, drinks, and just general freebies. Kids loved it.

We went to the Walmart in Garner this weekend, as we were tired of the one in Clayton not having anything, I could not find anything in the Garner location, as it has a newer layout compared to the one in Clayton. So I was walking all over the place. If I had to guess the one in Clayton will have the layout like the one in Garner.

I think overall you can save money at Wal-Mart, but I've seen varying prices on items at different Wal-Marts. Another thing, too is I think for convenience sakes, Wal-Mart has got people convinced that their stores are the greatest way to save.

When I was a young child, my mother and I would go with my grandmother grocery shopping on Saturday morning. They strategically shopped knowing what items they NEEDED and went to two or three different stores. As most of us remember, there were no warehouse clubs, Wal-Marts, etc. on the scale that there is now.

I believe people buy too much. They only want to go grocery shopping once a week and figure that Wal-Mart is overall the most affordable. I'll bet there is substantial savings in shopping for items as needed rather than anticipating what you'll need for the next week or so.

My fiance is a vendor and the new walmart will open on the 19th. They have to go in in about a week or so to stock the merchandise.

I went to the Clayton store to get some coffee. I searched for twenty minutes!!. You should have seen all the confused people walking around..lol. One customer cussed out the poor cashier because her normal half hour shopping trip took 1.5 hours due to the mess and confusion.

Sounds like me, except I didn't cuss out the cashier, LOL. It's not the cashier's fault the store is a hot mess. That is purely on **** poor management as well.

Stopped in the Clayton Wally World Wed. night to get a gift card. At least they have put a bunch of school supplies now in the front of the store. The rest of it is still a mess with the home goods (bathroom and bedroom stuff) split in multiple areas. I can get used to a new layout eventually as long as it makes sense but I don't think this one will.

Agree with all of the above. Went to that store 3 times in two weeks for different things, and the same thing was in several different places on the trips. It's crazy. All the shoppers are walking around in a daze. Everyone talking about how they can't find anything, including an associate to help. Not that they would know where anything is either, lol. Very bad for business! Last trip to Wally World until I can save 20 miles on my car by shopping at the new one, can't wait!

20 miles? I think you need a decent GPS unit!
