Ok, it's about time for my 2p... You don't tip for Christmas. You give a gift for Christmas. Tipping is done to promote better service, or as a reward for service that was provided above and beyond what was expected. If that is the case, why wait for Christmas? You give gifts to family and friends. Unless you're buddies (or related to) with your postman, or you're newsie, you don't need to gift them, nor should it be expected.
And we earn every danm cent of it. Thanks anyway. Some customers do tip more for a christmas gift. I think most of the women know what I am talking about. Usually a hairdresser is more then just a hairdresser. They become your friend etc....
I could have given the S. T. that gave me a ticket a few months back a good tip.... the tip of my shoe!
I tip for services rendered throughout the year for hair stylist, dog groomer etc...for Christmas, I give gifts. Each year I leave a gift for my letter carrier (same one for years) in my mailbox - wrapped with a card and his name on it. Others, I drop off their gifts in person. I don't go crazy on these gifts, but I do try to find something that I believe the receiver will enjoy and get some use out of. Lots of times you can find neat and somewhat original gifts at a reasonable cost at craft fairs.
