Just want to note that some aren't concerned as much about not having their summers or changing around daycare times as they are the cost increase that they may or may not be able to afford. Some people don't currently pay for daycare because they have taylored their work schedule around the current school schedule. If the schedule changes, they will have to figure out how to pay for a significant new expense. This isn't something that is so easy to take in stride for those who already struggle financially. I have read the book you mentioned, but this is a very valid concern for some parents. It is just one of the many facets of this decision that deserve to be discussed.
School board was presented with information on this today. School board voted to table the consideration of adoption of the non traditional calendar, as they felt the process was too rushed and that there was many unknowns about the effects.
Where you at the meeting? I just got home from an appointment and haven't been able to get any information. I was kinda hoping the meeting video would be up so I could see what went down!

We just received a call (recorded) from the principal of our school giving us the news from the board. I think it makes sense to not change the calendar this coming school year. It all seemed too rushed. Yay for August beach trips now!
