Thanks for everyone's help! The vigil went very well. Still no TV news coverage, but a reporter from the Smithfield Herald was there. The Cleveland Post will also be running a story in this week's edition. I'm so hoping it will attract some attention and somehow word will make it's way to Daniel.

Turn-out was modest... mostly friends and family and a few folks from here on 4042.com, but it was very nice and everyone was so supportive. My oldest son's church youth group came and their band played a few songs. A few of the members of Daniels JROTC were also there and keeping their eyes and ears open for news of Daniel.

Everyone took copies of the flier with them to post in area businesses or even in their car windows and we raised another $100 for the reward.

    Thanks again for everyone's help!

The vigil was really nice….It was good to see that members of the community really cared.
Would have like more 40402ers but I know this situation is in your thoughts and prayers.
Just ask yourself how you would feel if it was your kid. It’s been a month now. And you don’t know where or how your child is.

    Could you sleep ?
    Could you eat?
Could you ever possibly stop worring?

How many of you have worried when you had a new babysitter, if your child was ok?
Multiply that by a zillion and maybe you’ll have idea of how Daniels mom feels.

She seems ok, but on the inside she is hurting. Please help in anyway you can.
    Ideas?

If I missed it, please forgive me, but has this ran in the Clayton News Star or the N&O? I would try to get it on the Hollar line for QDR and maybe you can contact them and see if they can post something on their website, same with MIX 101.5 and some of the other stations. Like I said, if this has already been tried and I missed where it was mentioned, forgive me. Home today due to the heat made me sick, so.....

Can something be put on a site that the kids visit quite often? I know that Daniel might visit those sites also, but might get a response from Daniel or even one of the other kids that could help. Just a thought.

I just keep racking my brain for ideas to explore. Does Daniel have a myspace, facebook etc. type page? I know it's very similar to the missing marine case but maybe he is communicating via these pages like what happened with the marine. If he has accessed his page or others maybe somebody could track down the IP address (not sure if that is the technical term or not) is located. If not, have you thought about having someone create a page dedicated to finding Daniel? I know they're not hard to do and this could at least get more internet exposure.

Try contacting the people at this link: http://www.doenetwork.org/

This is international and they have people all over the place on the look out. This group might have someone homebound in Garner or somewhere who could do things that we cannot or don't have time for.

Great credentials and our family has tried to help on several cases. My mom knows one woman on the list from the 60s.

All of the area news outlets (TV, Radio, Print News) have been contacted by the National Foundation for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as KlaasKids. There should be a story in today's issue of the Cleveland Post and the Smithfield Herald, but those are the only two who have chosen to cover it. The Herald is owned by the N&O, so if it gets enough attention, they may choose to run a story as well.

I'm calling QDR's Holler Line this week. Wheless said he'd keep an ear out for me and make sure it gets on.

Daniel does have a MySpace page. I've updated it with a new pic of him with the word "!!REWARD!!" super-imposed over it in big red letters and his 'name' is now "$500 Reward for information leading to Daniel!". I use his page to post bullitens about him and ask for info since there are so many teens that he knows linked to his page.

    His link is http://www.myspace.com/hedied4u

I'm sorry I couldn't be there, but my prayers are with you. I would like to know from any one on here that know the laws. This boy has been gone for over a month now, when does he not be a runaway and become a missing child? When does the news and law enforcement get involved?

I agree....its been way too long.

When I worked in a family law office.....if this happened than they would be placed in a foster care or in Juvie. I hate to see this happened to Daniel.

I know when my daughter was missing the Apex police jumped right on it. She lied about where she was staying and did not come home when she said she would. Then I found out who she was with but still didn't know where and the PD put her in the missing kids database and was ready to issue an Amber Alert when she finally was found a state away. We had to take her back to the PD to stop the amber alert and take her out of the missing kids database

Johnston County Sheriff's department has been involved since day 1. He's in the NCIC database (National Crime Information Center) where all national missing persons are listed. If law enforcement picks him up anywhere in the country and run his name, they'll know he's a runaway and bring him home. Amber Alerts are only issued when there's a suspicion of foul play of if it's a young child who has wandered off. If Daniel had just "not come home", then there would have been a posibility of foul play (abduction or something), but since the overwhelming evidence was that he voluntarily went out his bedroom window - no Amber Alert for 16 yr old runaways.
