I'm single, which prolly helps ... have the energy efficient washer and dryer, I do about three or four loads of laundry a week. Rarely use the dishwasher (not enough dishes to justify using it). House sq ft is about 1350. I do often use heat/AC due to awful allergies, but I keep the house filters changed frequently to help with efficiency. I think it was particularly low this month because the house got struck by lightning so things were unplugged/burnt out for a few days. It's usually up to about 80 or 90 ... the highest is in mid summer, it gets up to about 120. I try to follow the rules to keep the bills down: Turn off the automatic ice maker in the freezer, only do loads of laundry after the heat of the day is over or in the morning, turn off lights or unnecessarily plugged in items, keep the heat/ac reasonable, things like that.
We haven't turned our heat on yet either. We've got a few extra blankets on the beds and we are wearing "real clothes" too! I have the blinds open right now letting the sun shine in for a little heat. Tonight may be a different story though. I may have to give in and use the heat. We pay $117 a month for the flat rate with Progress Energy. We did go over this summer some though because I am pregnant and sooooooo hot!!! We use the dishwasher every day and the washer and dryer too. I also cook 2--sometimes 3 times a day. We have 5 living here and we do everything we can to keep that bill down!!
I just moved to the area. My second bill is $157.00. I like it here so far. We have a pretty big family though. My husband and I have 4 boys. Is the closest community college in the area Johnston Community College?
Either JCC or Wake Tech http://www.waketech.edu/ depending on where you live in JC. Over here where I live, we're about halfway between the two.
We forgot to turn on the heat last night when we went to bed and I woke up at 5am freezing!! Even with a lab and a rat terrier snuggling (hubby was somewhere in the bed).
I have done that before. It sucks! It is usually 50 in the house when I forget to turn it on. *laughing with you, not at you*
Had an old home in Georgia that was so drafty the water glass by the bed started to ice over. Space heaters in all the rooms and plenty of comforters. God I miss that place.
Ready you sound like me. We also added on about 2 years ago and now have 2800 sf. Our equal payment plan is $228 per month. We finally cut our gas logs on for a while before bed last night. That's the first heat we've used so far. Bren
For the month ending Oct 10, $147.95, for a two-story 1750 sq ft house. My monthly equal payment amount is $196. Only one person and cats, but have kept the house uncomfortably warm the last couple weeks - have very young foster kittens. I tried putting a thermostat controlled ceramic heater in the kitten room, but then it got too hot. And I worried about their getting burned. KDsG, Thanks for the Earth911 link. I'll study it for ideas.
Oh-my-word, some of you dont have your heat on yet??? *SHIVER* I consider myself cold-blooded ... I love this cooler weather ... and it's wonderful to curl up in lots of warm blankets at night ... but BRRRR....
We do laundry a lot, keep the heat set 66/67. I amit to keeping a lot of lights on too, tho. Trying to cut them off behind myself, but that doesn't always happen. Frogger
